A witness of history – First Solar Irrigation Pump in Bangladesh

Year 1984.

CCDB started solar pump irrigated rice cultivation!

CCDB installed the country’s first-ever Solar Irrigation Pump at Keshor Hat, Mohonpur, Tanor, and Manda in the Rajshahi district. Each pump could meet the irrigation needs of 25 farmers of about 5 acres (20 bighas) of land. At that time, the Agriculture Development Project and Solar Irrigation Project of CCDB installed 4 solar irrigation pumps. The government of the Netherlands donated the Solar system.

This is how under the Agricultural Development Scheme, CCDB successfully cultivated paddy on farmers’ land in 1984 using a solar irrigation system.
