Drought tolerant crops

place

Drought tolerant crops are research based crop varieties which can grow and produce optimum yield using less water. Usually these crops can grow in a dry and adverse soil condition, and can be harvested in a comparatively shorter time span. For example, BARI chinabadam10, Bina dhan7, BRRI dhan55, BRRI dhan56, BRRI dhan66 and BRRI dhan71 are mentionable drought tolerant varieties of Bangladesh.

Benefit for the user:

  • Requires less water to produce optimum yield
  • Produces good yield in a drought prone environment.

Contribution to Climate Change Adaptation:

  • This type of crop will be helpful to adapt with climate change in drought prone areas especially for its qualities of surviving with less water and producing optimum yield.

Regional Feasibility:

  • Drought Prone areas like Manikgonj, Tangial, Shirajgonj, Bogura, Pabna, Natore, Nawabganj, Naogaon etc.

Cost: Drought tolerant crop seed cost will be added with the regular cultivation cost.
