Capacity Building
As a direct consequence of climate change, the variability, intensity, and incidence of disasters is increasing and having devastating impacts on human lives and assets. Particularly in developing and poor countries, the worst victims are often the least responsible for climate change and the least capable of adapting to its impacts. They lack proper knowledge, skills, advanced technology, and sometimes the ability to use existing technologies under changing conditions. Both community stakeholders as well as professional groups have been found to suffer in these ways.
Most of the national-level NGOs, INGOs, early-career academicians, and development practitioners seek to learn about the broader aspects of climate change and disaster management. Local-level NGO clients and community people, by contrast, want to learn about practical solutions and build community/individual resilience against climate change impacts.
The Climate Centre is a one-stop solution centre where various stakeholders can learn about the main thematic areas covered (climate change, climate policies, community-based adaptation, community-based climate disaster risk assessment and disaster risk reduction, and renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions). Customised trainings are also available on climate change and gender, or on any other topic specially requested by clients. An annual summer school will train the leaders of tomorrow. To foster the transition to a climate-resilient future, the Climate Centre focuses on development practitioners (particularly those working at the community level), young professionals, policy regulators, and media professionals from both Bangladesh and abroad. In collaboration with various national and international institutions, the Centre contributes to the human resources development for key stakeholders in the field of climate-resilient development. In the Climate Centre, the training methodologies are interactive, participatory, and field-oriented. The demonstration of wide ranges of adaptation and mitigation technologies is well equipped to accommodate larger groups. The Climate Centre happily provides some trainings scholarships for participants with an excellent record; however, they are highly competitive. The Training Centre provide certificates of successful completion of the training. Furthermore, Training of the Trainers (ToT) for other training organizations is also conducted here in the Centre.
The participants are trained to improve their skills, apply innovative technologies, and to design and implement climate projects in ways that consider local conditions. Under the broader framework of sustainable development, the participants of the training program will acquire the skills to work in a vast area of climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, resilience building, low carbon solutions, and climate risk assessments. This course will enable them to interact efficiently and build networks with direct stakeholders and other interested parties at the local, national, and global levels.
Flagship training
The CCDB capacity building program is providing a 15-day flagship training course on climate change issues every four months to build the capacity of professionals from development sectors with a unique focus on climate technologies, both in agriculture and non-agricultural sectors, including science and corresponding areas. The course will provide participants with a broad understanding of climate change issues, as well as teach them about technological solutions to address the impact of climate change in Bangladesh and beyond. The training course is designed primarily for young and mid-level professionals from both government and non-government organizations, including private sector entrepreneurs seeking to convert our climate risks into opportunities. Recent university graduates from relevant disciplines are also welcome to take part in the training program. The uniqueness of the training includes interactive lectures, dialogues, field visits, group works, home assignments, role plays, debates, documentary shows, interesting and informative class presentations, recreational activities, a detailed pack of reading materials, as well as special sessions by distinguished speakers.
Certified course
Although the challenges of climate change are universal, responsive mitigation and adaptation is not always possible at a large scale. Most developing countries have very limited capacities to adapt to the changing climate and must couple their initiatives with effective policies, plans, and actions. Therefore, now-a-days, with the increasing adverse effects of climate change, acquiring new knowledge and skills has become the demand of the time.
To support the transition to a climate resilient future, the CCDB is working to enhance the knowledge and capacity of local to national-level professionals through several long and short training courses on climate change issues. In collaboration with various national and international institutions, CCDB is expected to contribute to the human resources development of key stakeholders in the field of climate-resilient development. The CCDB capacity development program designs and launches both long and short certificate training courses to achieve the national demand. Trainings are as follows:
- Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (Climate Change Impacts, Policies and Action)
- Climate Change ansd Community Based Adaptation
- Climate Change, Food Security and Agriculture
- Climate Risk Assessment
- Climate Change and Technology Transfer
Tailor-Made training/ Others training
To build and strengthen the capacity of government agencies, organizations and communities to reduce the impact of climate change and disaster for sustainable development and community resilience building, CCDB’s capacity building program organises especially designed trainings in both in-house and online form in the following climate change topics:
- Climate Change
- Disaster Management
- Dissemination of Renewable Energy
- Community Based Adaptation
- Community Based Disaster Risk Management
